Barred spiral galaxy, mag 8.2, apparent size 12' x 11'. One of the first galaxies to be discovered but its spiral form wasn't recognized until much later. Three well defined spiral arms, dust lanes with many H-II regions and star clusters. Small 20" diameter nucleus is visible in this image with a limiting mag of about 20.75. Brightest Cepheid is mag V=22.33, too faint for this image. Galaxies just above are ESO 444-G 085 and PRC C-47, both much further away. Image covers about 21' x 19'.
