Image Size: 22' x 18'

Face-on intermediate spiral galaxy in Pavo, apparent size 20' x 12', low surface brightness. The central region dominated by the bar is extended and clean from dust. At least half a dozen major spiral arms project from the inner ring before winding almost continuously all the way out to the edge of the optical disk. Many HII regions are visible. Foreground field contamination by galactic stars makes the identification of stars in the spiral arms uncertain. Below right, 10' northwest, is its distorted companion, NGC 6744A, an irregular barred galaxy, apparent size 1.7' x 0.7, mB=15.15.
