NGC 7331

Mouse Over the image to display the Infrared Layer

Two aligned images of galaxy NGC 7331
One image is in the visible band from the Kitt Peak National Observatory. The second image adds an Infrared overlay from the Spitzer Space Telescope.

The visible band image shows dust lanes as non luminous but in the Infrared overlay the emissions from the dust lanes jumps out.

Data was collected as part of the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS): Visible image from the Kitt Peak 2.1M (84") telescope Infrared overlay (3.6 and 5.8 micrometers) from Spitzer Space Telescope Infrared Array Camera (IRAC). Both visible and IR data publicly available at: http://irsa.ipac.caltech.edu/data/SPITZER/SINGS/galaxies/ngc7331.html
